The Final Countdown

60 days until I board a plane to New Zealand.
39 days until I move out of my home of 9 years.
5 more days of eating whatever I want, like pizza for dinner two nights in a row, in order to ease my stress. (New Zealand requires that I look like Halle Berry in order to obtain my work visa. That’s a lie. A funny lie… but a lie.) And in between all of this, I need to somehow fit in an explanation to all of you as why the hell I am doing this.

I’m looking forward to hearing that actually, because I’m not quite sure myself.

I’m pretty sure this subway ad had something to do with it. Delta tagged New York City up right before I left for Australia. Before my vacation, staring at that photo of the Darling Harbour Bridge made the morning commute bearable knowing that I would see it in person soon enough. But after I got back- when Queens didn’t feel quite right and I could no longer blame that on the jet lag- it was the tag that really grabbed me.

“Well…I work in TV. And they do have TVs in Australia.
But I’ve already been to Australia, how about New Zealand?”

Then there were all those signs from heaven!! This random window at some home store right next door to Adorama, which I’m visiting every week now to ask some inane question about my new camera. A New Zealand beer on tap at a bar I frequent in Queens. The Peter Jackson quote in the pre-show at the AMC theaters now, “New Zealand isn’t a country, it’s a village”.

And hello…his last name is JACKSON!

Ok, I’m reaching a bit. I know. But I think when you’re on the hunt for signs that will give you the courage to make a big decision, you have already pretty much made the decision.

Why am I going to New Zealand?
I kinda just feel like it.

More details soon to follow. But seriously…watch this ad and tell me you don’t kinda feel like it, too.

I hear you. I’m planning my own big move to Aotearoa in the fall. It’s scary as (that’s some kiwi lingo for you). I’ve been twice and love it. I’m sure you will too. I’ll look forward to following your adventures.

Do you realize how exciting this is? Seriously. Way to seize the day. In New Zealand! Crazy and awesome. See, I’m so excited for you, I’m not even making sense.

If I could, I would love to up and move somewhere so exciting. I can’t wait to hear more details!

    Gosh, this all sounds familiar!

We decided to uproot and move to Paris in about ten minutes over wine one night last year. People thought we were INSANE, especially because we have two young boys.

It wasn’t the easiest choice I ever made, but I was sick of feeling numb. We knew we needed to change things up, and it worked!

I am so excited for you. ;)

I’m so excited for you. Sometimes you just have to follow these urges and see where they lead. You’re so lucky that you CAN. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be the best experience ever and I’m totally, insanely jealous. All Michael and I want to do is travel, but we’re kind of tied down to our jobs, and his only gives two weeks of vacation per year. So not enough. Anyway, safe travels and keep us all updated!
