When my Artisan Bread in 5 cookbook finally arrives, I will be making this egg in a toast cup recipe from their blog. This comes right after I finish all of the artisinal boules and baguettes I will need to stock my cubicle, the site of the new boulangerie. My customers will need plenty of fresh-baked bread while they sip their chocolat, read “Le Monde” and discuss La Revoluton. When their charming children run in wearing ragamuffin clothes and clogs, (I know, wrong country…still Europe, though.), I’ll slip them their own little sweets even though it may spoil their dinner.
“Merci Madame!!
“Au Revoir, mes enfants!!”
This recipe will provide a simple and nourishing breakfast as I sit on my patio with a view of La Tour Eiffel, reflecting on all of the amusing characters who find their way into Sarah’s Boulangerie. Of course, there will be no bacon in this recipe since I will be doing all of this in my purple t-shirt with a brontosaurus on it that says “Vegetarian”. Ah well, c’est la vie!
In other news, I am missing one of my comfy monkey socks. This is distressing not only because these socks have raised my Maximum Comfort levels by at least 10%, but because of where I think it may have landed. I am pretty certain I left my monkey friend at Blue Cliff Monastery.
He is either here at the foot of my bed, beneath an orchid and calligraphy of a Zen Enso…
Here, at the altar in the meditation hall which was converted into the dorm I stayed in…
Or here, in the Big Meditation Hall.
The idea that a blue and red sock with a monkey sitting on a flying banana is found by any of the Brothers or Sisters in one of these locations is so embarrassing I can hardly breathe…in or out. My chances for enlightenment do not look good at the moment.
But that monkey is going to be so damn centered.
*Many thanks to Jeff and Zoe over at the Artisan Bread in 5 blog for allowing me to use their scrumptious photo.

Oh my, I think that may be the cutest breakfast I’ve ever seen! Are you sure you don’t want to set up your boulangerie right inside the door of my office building? Or perhaps next door to my house? Either one would work just fine for me.
You. Are. So. Funny. Thank you.
Great post! I think you’ll need to invest in another pair of monkey socks. They’re essential to well-being, I imagine.
Baking your own bread! That’s awesome. I love the shots from the monastery.
