Jet lag is a motherf—r.
Let’s pretend that it’s not 4 am in Queens and 6 pm in Sydney. Let’s pretend that I’m not going to do a perfect cannonball from my window when my alarm goes off in 4 hours. Let’s pretend that this isn’t entirely my fault for going to bed at 5 am and waking up at 3pm today… or yesterday, whatever. Let’s just NOT.
Let’s talk about this cookie instead. Ladies and Gentleman, may I present one of Australia’s finest… the Melting Moment.
“How ya’ goin?”
“I’m good, thanks.”
“What can I get ya’?”
“I’ll have a coffee.”
“haha, well… What kind of coffee?”
“Umm…”
“How do ya’ usually drink it?”
“Like… regular coffee. Crappy coffee. In a mug. With milk and sugar.”
“Alright, no worries. You wanna Weak Long Black with milk on the side.”
“A Weak Long Black. Got it. Oooo, what kind of cookie is this?”
“No. Don’t even ask. Just tell me you want it, and I guarantee it will be the most delicious thing you will ever eat in your life.”
“ohhhh-kay, I am so sure… Alright, fine. Let’s do it.”
“Good on you! It’s called a Melting Moment, by the way.”
This happened in the middle of my trip, at a cafe along the Great Ocean Road. Not a super logical place, or big enough of a story really, to start a download on my trip. When I catch up on my sleep, I’ll be taking you from Sydney to Port Douglas to Adelaide to Melbourne and aaaaallll the way back to Sydney. But there’s a good chance if I had waited to be Miss Well Rested Writer Business Lady before getting into it that a new cookie and cute conservation wouldn’t have made the cut.
So let’s pretend that this is what the jet lag is for. It’s some extra time to let the tiny, non-events from Australia bubble up without having to compete with kangaroos and the Twelve Apostles. Those are the moments that can melt away. But if I let them pile up one after another waiting for sleep to come, I can see why this trip was a total gamechanger.
Yeah.
Let’s go with that.

Can’t wait to hear more from your adventures old friend. Looks like it was heaven. Jealousy doesn’t cover it any longer
I would give anything for that cookie right now. Seriously…..anything!
